SOPA and my Congressman Todd Rokita
| December 20, 2011
Dear (REDACTED),
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 3261, the Stop Online Piracy Act. It is good to hear from you.
As you may know, H.R. 3261 was introduced by Representative Lamar Smith of Texas on October 26, 2011. It was referred to the Judiciary Committee. I take very serious any unnecessary, overbearing intrusion by government into people’s lives. I believe we must remain vigilant to ensure that government does not get into the business of censoring people. I have a strong record fighting for our rights and privacy interests. However, I also understand that our laws must adequately reflect the advancements in technology. Please be assured I will keep your views in mind should this legislation come before me.
Again, thank you for contacting me, please stay in touch.

Hi, my name is Tyler Gehring, and I am a student at Purdue University. I wanted to send you this message saying thank you for your stance on SOPA. Don’t get me wrong, I think internet piracy needs to stop, but the current form of SOPA goes way too broad in scope and it will do a lot more harm than good. Thank you for your time.
Thanks for the comment.
There are enough laws on the books to combat piracy. I am a 30 year old guy with 3 kids and I believe the last bastion of true democracy is the internet. We need to fight any attempts to limit that however we can.
Thanks,
Josh
